Pressed Glass

Today we visited Mosser Glass Company in Cambridge, Ohio.  This company produces beautiful  pressed glass items.  I was struck by the obvious differences between this glass and the glass blown at Blenko, here in Milton.  Though Blenko also uses molds for many of their designs, the look is very different.
Take a look at the Mosser Glass pieces, on the website, and Blenko pieces as well.  Do you prefer one to the other? Why? Does one seem more durable than the other? Why?
Be ready to discuss in class!

  1. Great questions for your students and observation between Blenko and Mosser Glass.

  2. Having students compare blown, pressed and rolled glass is a great lesson. Why does Mosser press rather than blow their products? Would it be possible to blow them? What are the advantages and disadvantages?

The same questions could be asked about the sheet glass at Wissmach. Could it be blown or pressed? Advantages or disadvantages?

  3. Color is another difference they point out! I thought Mosser has very different and unique colors. I wonder if they will consider State Pride or more so Local Pride when choosing a preference. Great lesson, enjoyed reading!
